How to Find Movies and TV Shows to Watch with WatchFilms
Last updated October 27, 2026
You have a free evening, three streaming apps open, and twenty minutes later you’re still scrolling. WatchFilms was built to shorten that search. It is a discovery site, not a streaming service: it helps you decide what to watch, then points you to the legal places where that title is available.
What WatchFilms Is
WatchFilms organizes movie and TV information so you can actually act on it. Title details, images, cast and user scores come from The Movie Database (TMDB), a large community-edited film and TV database. Streaming availability, when it exists for a title, comes from JustWatch, delivered through TMDB.
There’s no account to create and nothing to install. WatchFilms doesn’t play full movies or episodes; it shows you where you can watch them.
Discover Movies and TV Shows
Movies and series have separate catalogs. The movie catalog and the TV show catalog both open on what’s popular right now and share the same filters, so once you know one, you know both.
The homepage is the quickest starting point. Below the search bar are rows for trending titles, films now in theaters, popular series and upcoming releases.
Explore Trending and Top-Rated Titles
These two lists answer different questions.
Trending movies shows which titles are drawing the most recent activity and interest on TMDB this week; a new release or returning series can climb within days. It is not a measure of verified streaming viewership, or of quality.
Top-rated movies answers “what has held up over time?” Titles are ordered by TMDB user score, but only films with at least 2,000 votes qualify (800 for TV shows), so a little-known title with a handful of perfect scores can’t outrank films rated by thousands of people.
A simple rule: for something current, start with Trending; to explore titles backed by established TMDB user ratings, start with Top Rated.
Search and Filter by Genre, Country and Year
When you already have a title in mind, use search. Suggestions appear as you type, and the results page can be limited to movies or TV shows and to a single year.
When you don’t, filters do the work. For example:
- Family movie night: open Movies, choose Animation or Family, set the minimum TMDB score to 7+, and sort by newest first.
- Something different: pick a country of origin such as Japan or Brazil, then add a genre you already enjoy.
- A specific era: set a release year and sort by highest score to see that year’s best-regarded titles.
Every featured country also has its own page under Countries, showing its popular movies and series together. Genre pages work the same way.
Explore Movie Details, Cast, Ratings and Trailers
Each title page collects what you need to decide, as far as TMDB has the information:
- the overview, runtime or episode length, genres and original language
- the age rating for your selected country, when one exists
- director, writers and key crew for films; creators and networks for series
- the main cast, including how many episodes each actor appears in for TV shows
- a season-by-season episode guide for series, with air dates
How to read the ratings
The score shown is a TMDB user score: the average of ratings from TMDB community members, displayed with the number of votes behind it. WatchFilms doesn’t write reviews or publish ratings of its own, and when a title has too few votes for an average to mean much, the score is hidden instead.
Trailers
Official trailers come from YouTube, when one is available for the title. Nothing loads from YouTube until you press play, and the video then runs in YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode.
Find Where to Watch Movies and TV Shows
Each title page has a “Where to watch” box. When TMDB has provider information for that title in your country, the box lists the services offering it, grouped into subscription, free, free with ads, rental and purchase. Not every movie or show has provider data; when none is listed for your country, the box says so. The United States is the default; choose another country and the box updates.
When providers are listed, a link below them opens all current viewing options for that country, and a Watch Now button appears only when a direct link to the title on a legitimate service has been verified.
Before paying, check the subscription group first. If a film is already included with a service you have, there’s no reason to rent it.
Save Favorites With My List
Press “Save to My List” on any title to keep it for later. The list lives in your browser on that device: no sign-up, but also no syncing, so titles saved on your laptop won’t appear on your phone. Open My List to review what you’ve saved, remove what you’ve watched, or select two titles to compare.
Compare Movies and TV Shows
Stuck between two options? The comparison tool lines them up: year, genres, length, TMDB score and votes, director or creator, main cast, country, language, age rating and, where provider data exists, where each is available in your region.
You can compare a movie with a series. When you do, film runtime and episode length appear on separate rows, because a two-hour film and a ten-episode season aren’t the same commitment.
Practical Tips for Getting the Most Out of WatchFilms
- Follow the recommendations. The “If you like…” and “Similar” rows at the bottom of a title page are often better leads than any list.
- Check release dates before renting. For newer films, the details panel shows theatrical and digital release dates for your country when TMDB has them, useful when deciding whether to wait for streaming.
- Size up a series first. Open the season guide to see how many seasons and episodes you’re committing to before episode one.
- Set the right region. If you’ve moved or are traveling, choose the country you’re in, since services differ from place to place.
Conclusion
WatchFilms is the short step between “what should I watch?” and pressing play on a service you trust. Browse or search, check the details and the score, see whether and where the title is listed in your country, and save or compare when you’re not ready to decide. The information comes from TMDB and JustWatch; the choice is yours.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I watch full movies or episodes on WatchFilms?
No. WatchFilms is a discovery guide. When provider information is available, it shows where a title is offered by legitimate services, and it plays official trailers only.
Do I need an account?
No. Browsing, search, My List and the comparison tool all work without signing up. The streaming services you choose may charge for subscriptions, rentals or purchases.
How current is the streaming information?
Title information is normally refreshed from TMDB every 12 hours, but services can change their catalogs at any time, so confirm on the service before you pay.
Where do the ratings come from?
They’re TMDB user scores, averaged from ratings by TMDB community members. WatchFilms doesn’t rate or review titles itself.
Is my saved list private?
Yes. My List is stored only in your browser. WatchFilms never receives it, and clearing your browser data deletes it.
